Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to access the subconscious mind which is then open and free to accept changes that are directed
towards it using specific therapeutic techniques.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply the method used by the hypnotist to induce the client into a state of deep relaxation which we call
a trance.
There are lots of different ways to induce a trance. I personally use a very slow, gentle technique that allows you to
gradually reach a level of relaxation that is suitable for therapy to take place.
The induction allows you to relax at a pace that is comfortable for you. You can stop the process at any time and you
will not be asleep. You will always be in control and be very aware of your surroundings at all times.
You are able to move and speak while in trance but you may feel that you just can't be bothered.
You cannot be made to do anything you don't want to do.
You cannot get stuck in a trance.
What does it feel like to be in a trance?
Try this.
Sit down in a comfortable chair, place your feet flat on the floor, don't cross your legs. Allow your arms to rest easily
on your lap, don't cross your arms. Lean back on the chair, close your eyes, take three deep breaths and relax.
Now just sit there and imagine you are 20 times more relaxed than you feel at the moment.
That is similar to being in a trance. You are aware of everything that is going on around you. You are not asleep and
can open your eyes at any time you choose.
Typically, Hypnotherapy is not recommended for anyone suffering from mental illness.
